Giclée

Giclée: What is it? The term, "Giclée" (French work pronounced zhee-clay), refers to the use of professional grade inkjet printers, pigmented inks, art papers and canvas to reproduce original artworks.

While all giclée prints are inkjet prints, not all inkjet prints can be called giclées. Three factors are involved in determining a true giclée:

1. Hardware: scanners, digital cameras and printers must be of professional quality.

2. Materials: high quality paper and canvas play a role in the print making process. The ink pigments demonstrate longevity through many decades.

3. The giclée's printmaker: the human factor in the creation of printing the giclée.

Giclées can be enhanced or embellished with dry brush painting to add more texture and uniqueness.

Because giclées can be printed one-at-a-time and have limited editions, they are generally less expensive than the original work of art.
